Small bottle of honey
When we travel to smoky mountains,
the areas cover North Carolina and Tennessee border, we pass through state of Georgia,
and stop by at a gift store near the mountains. We saw a lot of handmade items made
by local communities.
There are many merchandise and
special gifts to bring home, some of them are mugs, soaps, posters, T-shirts,
bags, stickers and many more. The price seems reasonable in such tourist
destinations.
What attract my attention is a
small bottle, four sides bottle which is made of clear glass with size of 4 oz
(0.11 liter). The bottle design looks so cute. Inside it is honey. The seller
said that honey comes from smoky mountains.
The seller added: “honey has
wildflower flavor of smoky mountains, and delicious found nowhere.” It is well
known that forest covers American Southeastern, mainly in smoky mountains of Tennessee
and North Carolina, generates high quality honey.
Sourwood trees produce nectar
during blooming seasons, then honeybees use the nectar to manufacture
honey. Beekeepers start to collect honey
from bee hives at elevation 3100 feet (1000 m) of mountains around July every
year.
Honey in the small bottle is
supplied by company called “C & S Honey Supply.” What surprising me that
company has 3 employees only with annual revenue US$ 50 thousands, very much
tiny business.
My point is that if you buy
somethings (gifts, souvenir, handmade or whatever) in tourist destinations, you
may help small business or local communities or other small handmade producers.
