Sugar Cane Sold in Mexican Grocery

Price of a binding of sugar canes

I am very rare to come to ethnic groceries such as Asian market and Mexican shops. However, if I go to Asian Market, I’ll purchase crackers (fish, prawn or vegetable crackers), noodle, hot chilly, sprout, tofu, seasonings and sometime fruits and vegetables.

My favorite foods to buy in Mexican grocery are cakes (any kind of cakes), bread, banana and yucca chips, and fruits (mango and banana). The interesting of banana that the grocery sell small size banana, very sweet compared to regular ones.

Sugar canes in binding

After more than two or three months, I came to Mexican grocery few days ago, and surprising that the store sells sugar canes. Three canes with size around 3 feet (1 m) are tied by thin rope for US$2.29. It is reasonable price, not expensive for me.

I remember when I was a kid, I love to bite a cane or drink juice of sugar canes. Juice is a liquid which extracted from sugar cane: high calories but zero saturated fat and zero cholesterol. Many people drink juice for energy after jogging, running or doing any other sports.

In many areas produce sugar canes such as in South Asian countries, and even in America, it is common to find sugar cane juice. A lot of small vendors sell sugar cane juice in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar.

Some health benefit to drink sugar cane juice are: help function of the urinary tract, improve kidney performance and strengthen the liver functions.

  8. A friend of our family was in Kuba and told about several tables at the street, where you can drink such "juice" - very sweet, and you must be used to. But - as I learn here - not un-healthy! This friend would rather drink water, he was on the rod with his bicycle.
